What to Expect: A Step-by-Step Guide to our Legal Document Preparation Process
Navigating legal paperwork can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re already dealing with a stressful situation. Our goal is to make the process as clear, efficient and manageable as possible. Following is a simple breakdown of what you can expect when working with our office from start to finish.
How We Support You
As a reminder, we are not attorneys and are not permitted to provide legal advice or legal representation. Our role is to work with self-represented litigants to prepare legal documents at their specific direction, so they may be properly filed with the Court and served as required, allowing the matter to move forward smoothly.
Our process is designed to be organized, transparent, and efficient from start to finish. While every case is unique, following these steps helps ensure nothing is overlooked and that your matter progresses as seamlessly as possible.
Consultation
Every matter begins with an initial consultation. During this step, we discuss your situation, identify the documents needed and outline the available procedural options. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable moving forward.
Client Agreement & Hiring
Once you decide to proceed, you will receive a client agreement outlining the scope of services and applicable fees, along with an invoice for payment. The agreement may be signed electronically for convenience, or if you prefer, an in-office appointment can be scheduled to review and sign in person.
Payment is collected in accordance with our policy (either in full or with a 50% deposit to begin work, with the remaining balance due prior to signing). Once the agreement is signed and payment is received, your matter is officially opened and scheduled for document preparation.
Intake
After the agreement is completed and payment is received, you will be asked to complete an intake form and provide any supporting documentation (such as financial information, prior court orders, property details, exhibits, etc). This step ensures we have all the necessary information to accurately prepare your documents at your direction.
Drafting
Once your intake materials are received, we begin preparing your documents based on the information you’ve provided. Dedicated time is allocated to your file to ensure everything is properly formatted, complete and ready for your review.
Review
You will receive your drafted documents to review carefully. This is your opportunity to confirm that all information is accurate and reflects your intentions. If any revisions are needed, we will make those updates before moving forward.
Signing
After final approval, we will coordinate your signing. Your documents can be sent via USPS Certified Mail for completion, signing (or notarization, if applicable), or, if you prefer, an in-office signing appointment can be scheduled.
Filing
Once signed, we handle the filing process with the court (if applicable), including coordinating any required service of process by mail or arranging in-office personal service, preparing and filing the corresponding proofs of service, and tracking your case through the next stages. We also handle the timely preparation, filing, and service of any additional documents required throughout the process, as applicable, to ensure the agreed scope of work is fully completed.
If you’re ready to get started or have questions about your situation, please feel free to reach out. We’re here to assist you through each step of the process!
